Thriving on Empty

I see you… Makeup on point. Hair and nails done. Wearing what makes you feel your best. Sis, let me give you your flowers - You look good! And while you appear glowing on the outside, the truth is… deep down you’re gasping. Not for attention, but for air. For rest. For stillness. For someone to notice that the strength they keep praising is really survival in disguise.

This, beautiful soul, is what it means to be thriving on empty—showing up, smiling, creating, pouring, while quietly burning out underneath it all. It’s a silent exhaustion. And while the world may clap for your ability to keep going, God is whispering something different: “Come to Me. Let Me fill you again.”

The Illusion of Overflow

We often associate “thriving” with abundance—overflowing joy, high energy, mental clarity. But many of us are performing abundance while secretly dehydrated in spirit, mind, and body. We’re doing kingdom work, family care, and working a full time job, all while depleted.

The enemy of your wellness isn’t always a major attack. Sometimes, it’s the subtle wear of “just one more thing.” Another task. Another fire to put out. Another week of pushing yourself in the name of responsibility, when God is calling you to receive and to be tended to.

Summer is Here—Let Nature Minister Back

Summer is a season of fire—external and internal. It’s when we see the most inflammation, irritation, burnout, and restlessness in the body. But Creation, in its divine intelligence, offers us cooling, calming, and replenishing botanicals to partner with in this season.

Here are a few summer herbs I love to work with:

  • 🌿 Lemon balm – Calms the nervous system, supports digestion, eases irritability.

  • 🌸 Hibiscus – Cools the body, supports healthy blood pressure, and refreshes the spirit.

  • 🌱 Peppermint – Energizing without overstimulating, helps cool the body, soothes headaches.

  • 🍵 Nettle leaf – Rich in minerals, gently detoxifies, restores vitality to a depleted system.

  • 🌼 Chamomile – A soft healer that soothes inflammation—physical and emotional.

These are not just “herbs”—they are God’s medicine. Grown from the earth and infused with the same breath that sustains you.

Mindful Practices to Come Back to Center

As we navigate the intensity of summer—both the literal heat and the internal one—it’s essential to engage in routines that cool and reconnect. These are not luxury practices. They’re maintenance for your mind, body, and spiritual health.

  1. Rest without guilt. God’s presence is not only in the doing, but in the stillness.

  2. Start your mornings in silence. Before the world can ask anything of you, let Heaven speak first.

  3. Drink your tea as a prayer. As you sip, name what you’re releasing and what you’re ready to receive.

  4. Create margin. Say no more often. You’re not here to be everything for everyone.

  5. Be honest. Admit when you’re running on empty. That honesty is where healing begins.

You Don’t Have to Stay in Survival

If you’ve been functioning but know you’re not flourishing, you don’t have to stay in that space. You were never meant to burn out in the name of faith, motherhood, ministry, or purpose. Restoration is available for your mind, your body, your soul.

If your heart whispered “this is me” while reading, I want to invite you into something deeper: a space to be heard, supported, and restored.
