We all know life comes with a price tag — bills, obligations, responsibilities, and endless to-dos. Yet the cost of skipping time with God is one that most of us don’t calculate until we feel it in our hearts, our minds, and even our bodies.
In the hustle of daily life, it’s easy to push God to the margins. “I’ll pray later,” we tell ourselves. “I’ll read Scripture when I have a free moment.” But that “later” rarely comes, and we start to feel the subtle toll of that neglect: anxiety, exhaustion, restlessness, a loss of inner peace, and a sense of spiritual disconnection.
Time with God isn’t optional. It’s essential. And just like skipping meals, or ignoring a bill's due date, skipping your daily appointment with the Lord can cost you your peace, your clarity, and even your sense of purpose.
So let's talk about it.
The True Cost of Skipping God
Peace: Without moments to sit in His presence, our minds become crowded with worry and distraction.
Healing: God’s Spirit brings restoration — emotional, mental, and even physical. Ignoring Him slows down that process.
Clarity: Decisions made without prayer and reflection often lead to stress, confusion, and regret.
Perspective: Life’s burdens feel heavier when we try to carry them alone. Time with God reminds us who’s truly in control.
Let's go even deeper - skipping time with God doesn’t just cost peace of mind. It ripples through every area of life and can even affect your finances. Think about how much you've spent trying to recover your health, buy a glimpse of happiness, or repair bridges you've burned because your inner peace, clarity, and perspective wasn't aligned with God’s word and will. (Yes, I said it!)
Protecting Your Spirit is the Greatest Investment You Can Make
Set an alarm for Christ. Treat time with Christ like any other important appointment — it’s non-negotiable. And, those no call, no show fees add up.
Be intentional. Even five minutes of prayer, Scripture, or quiet reflection can anchor your day and create faith-filled expectancy for daily wins.
Create a sacred space. Simple acts such as lighting a candle, diffusing essential oils, sipping a healing tea, or writing in a journal can help cultivate a peaceful, intentional atmosphere where the Holy Spirit can meet you in the stillness.
Stay consistent. The cost of skipping time with Christ compounds over time. Know that your daily moments with God builds a foundation of strength and sustains peace that lasts.
Inspiration from My Heart
This insight came alive during a conversation with Rockiesha Adams from Royal Caribbean on my recent vacation. She reminded me that it’s not about 'fitting' God into our day; it’s about making time with God priority. This simple shift transforms more than our spiritual life - it empowers our whole life.
I know you’re busy, so try this:
Set an alarm on your phone labeled: “Time with Christ.”
When it goes off, step away for 5–10 minutes.
Breathe deeply. Read one verse. Whisper one prayer.
Notice how your body and spirit feel afterwards — lighter, steadier, more grounded.
Edit your alarm to repeat daily at the same time, with no end date, making this sacred appointment a lasting part of your daily routine.
My Final Thought and Prayer
Life is expensive, but the cost of skipping God is even higher. When you schedule time with Him, you aren’t adding another task to your to-do list — you’re making an investment in your peace, healing, and purpose. The most important appointment of your day is waiting; and the best part — He never cancels.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for always being present, even when life feels overwhelming. Help us to prioritize time with You each day, to rest in Your peace, and to open our hearts fully to Your Spirit. Restore our souls, guide our steps, and fill us with Your love, joy, and clarity. May our moments with You bring healing, hope, and a deep sense of purpose that overflows into every part of our lives.
With faith and confidence we offer our requests in Jesus' name. Amen.
Thank you for reading. May these words be a blessing to your soul and your journey.
