This month, I've spent a lot of time discussing heavy emotions such as grief & loss, anxiety, and depression. But there is one topic that many of us, Christian folk, try to suppress - Rage. Let's keep it real, we’ve all been there — heart pounding, fists clenched, heat rising in our chest. Although we make not act on our impulses, be advised that rage doesn’t just stay in the mind. It erupts. And sometimes? It shows up right on our skin.
Welcome to emotional inflammation, a hidden cause of chronic skin issues that even the fanciest creams can’t fix.
🧠 What Is Emotional Inflammation?
It’s the physical fallout of emotional overload. When your nervous system is constantly under stress — especially from unhealed anger — your immune system becomes inflamed. That inflammation can manifest as:
Red, itchy skin
Eczema and flare-ups
Adult acne
Heat rashes
Dry, flaky patches
Sensitivity and irritation
And rage? It’s one of the most fiery emotions there is.
😡 Why Rage Targets the Skin
In biblical times, skin diseases were often seen as signs of inner disorder — not punishment, but warning. Today, we know that intense, suppressed, or chronic anger can:
Trigger histamine release (cue the itching and redness)
Raise cortisol (stress hormone that weakens skin barrier)
Disrupt liver detox (leading to internal toxins trying to escape via skin)
Your skin becomes a canvas for your soul’s stress.
Guess what?! There is Hope — and it starts with Christ, calming herbs, and a little soul work.
🙏 Christ-Centered Cooling for Fiery Emotions
Christ never said we wouldn’t feel anger — but He did show us how to channel it with peace, prayer, and purpose.
“Be angry, and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger.” – Ephesians 4:26
Healing from rage-induced inflammation starts with:
Repentance & release – Journal or pray about where the anger stems from. Lay it at the feet of Jesus.
Stillness – A 10-minute quiet soak can settle the storm inside.
Herbal help – God made the plants too. Use them.
🌿Here are a few Herbal & Oil Allies for Angry Flared-up Skin
These are my go-to skin-soothing, spirit-settling tools:
Chamomile – Calms inflammation and anger. Drink it, soak in it, anoint with it. It's all good.
Calendula – Gently heals skin trauma. I keep salves and infused oils on my bathroom counter... hey, I'm married with grown kids lol.
Lavender – Cools heat physically and emotionally. Add a few drops to body wash, facial moisturizer, or your lotion to enjoy its effects.
Hyssop – Biblically used for cleansing. Great for purification soaks and body scrubs.
Aloe + Oats – The perfect go-to when your skin is screaming for relief.
✨ Once a week Try: A relaxing foot soak such as the Gentle Sole Foot Soak followed by a warm towel wrap and prayer.
✨ For extra relief, add a few drops of Lavender + Frankincense oil on the soles of your feet and heart center after quiet time.
💧 After a long and heated week, I practice a Soothing Routine for Letting Rage Go
Fill a basin with warm water + and 2 handfuls of Selah Soak.
Soak feet for 20-30 minutes. Breathe deep. Allow those fiery thoughts to surface and release them as you exhale.
Whisper this prayer:
“Lord, take this fire and purify, not destroy me. Let my skin reflect Your peace, not my pain.”
Whether you want to admit it or not, your body tells your story — not just of what you put on it, but what you’re carrying within. Let rage go. Let healing in. Let Christ walk you from inflammation to inner restoration.
Your glow is sacred. Let it shine from a place of peace.
With love and peace,
Wynter Michelle
