Wildcrafted vs. Organic Herbs: Why the Difference Matters

A gloved hand holding a handful of loose herbal tea blend over a blue ceramic bowl, showcasing dried leaves and plant material in earthy tones.
Healing begins in the palm of intention. Every blend is hand-crafted with care, tradition, and trust. Your wellness deserves more than mass production. This is what herbal healing looks like at Wynter's Spirit.

I get this question a lot — usually through a DM, a text, or during a call when someone is about to place an order:

"Are your herbs organic?"

And I get it. You want to know what you’re putting in your body. You want clean, pure, trustworthy herbs.

But sometimes when I explain that a certain herb is wildcrafted, not organic, the person on the other end feels a little uneasy—like they’re settling for less. And that always tugs at me. Because the truth is, wildcrafted herbs are just as valuable as organic—sometimes even more so—they're just misunderstood.

So I felt led to explain the difference. Not just as your herbalist, but as someone who wants you to be informed and empowered when you seek natural healing. Especially through Wynter’s Spirit.

Let’s start simple:

  • Organic herbs are grown on farms that follow strict rules—no synthetic pesticides, no chemicals, no GMOs. They’re carefully tended, grown in clean soil, and often certified to let you know they meet those standards.

  • Wildcrafted herbs, on the other hand, aren’t farmed at all. They’re gathered from where they naturally grow—out in the fields, forests, mountainsides. They grow without human intervention, without spraying, without being “managed.” They’re straight from the earth, just as God created them.

Here at Wynter’s Spirit, I use both wildcrafted and organic herbs,

and I source each one with care and prayer.

I use organic herbs when it makes sense — when I need consistency, or when certain herbs are best cultivated in clean, controlled conditions.

But I also love and deeply respect wildcrafted herbs. Many of the most potent plants can’t even be farmed well. They lose something when they’re domesticated. In the wild, they grow through real seasons—through droughts, floods, and winds. And I believe that struggle gives them strength.

That strength becomes your healing.

But Is Wildcrafted Safe?

I'm glad you asked!

Yes—when it’s done right. And I don’t take that lightly.

I don’t just rely on labels or outside sources. In fact, I personally harvest some of the herbs I use — right here in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and surrounding regions. I partner with responsible local farms and gardeners who share the same respect for the land and the plants. I meticulously inspect, clean, and traditionally dry the herbs during the right season, the way it’s been done for generations.

And believe it or not, these are often the herbs my clients rave about the most.

They have vibrant color, fresh texture, bold taste, and real potency. You can feel the difference because they’re not mass-produced. Each leaf, flower, and stem is personally handled with care.

Truthfully, this part of the work brings me so much joy. It reminds me of my childhood in Baker, Louisiana. I used to help my grandmother in her garden... or sneak a few herbs, fruits, and veggies when I thought she wasn’t looking. She didn’t just grow food — she grew medicine. I honestly don’t remember ever going to a doctor growing up.

She was my doctor, and her garden was the pharmacy.

That’s the same spirit I bring to Wynter’s Spirit. So when you see “wildcrafted” on the website, know that it may not come from a certification board, but it absolutely comes from deep knowledge, tradition, and love.

When you buy from Wynter’s Spirit, I want you to know exactly what you’re receiving and why I chose it. This isn’t a trend shop or a mass market brand. Wynter's Spirit is a faith-led wellness space where I personally blend, pray over, and package the medicine God made for your healing.

So next time you see “wildcrafted” on the website or label, I want you to feel reassured — not uncertain. It’s not second best. It’s just a different kind of sacred.

Whether it’s wildcrafted or organic, I promise I’ve chosen it with your healing in mind.

Stay rooted,

Wynter Michelle
