Wellness is my passion; however, constant demands between family, work, and community often cause me to neglect creating remedies for me and my family to enjoy. If you share this same passion but are experiencing the same work-life balance difficulties, this post is for you. Here is an effortless way to extract powerful nutrients from herbs and turn them into luxurious, skin-loving oils. Yes, you’re in for a treat! Why?!? Because, hot oil infusions are a game-changer when it comes to creating your own natural skincare products, salves, or simply having a multi-purpose herbal oil on hand.

So put on your favorite playlist, grab your favorite herbs, some high-quality organic olive oil, a crock pot and let’s get to infusing!

🌿 Here's What You’ll Need:

  • Two sterilized glass mason jars (one for infusing, one for storing)

  • High-quality organic olive oil (opt for oils from California, as they follow strict labeling laws for purity)

  • Your herb of choice (lavender, rose, hyssop, calendula, or chamomile are great options)

  • Cheesecloth (for straining)

  • A crock pot (ideal for infusing several oils at once)

💫 Step 1: Prepare Your Herbs

Choose dried herbs for this process. Tear or crush your herbs slightly to release their natural oils and properties. Then, loosely pack your herbs into one of your sterilized glass jars — filling it about 1/3 full.

💦 Step 2: Pour Your Oil

Slowly pour your organic olive oil over the herbs until it fills the jar about 1/2 inch from the top. Stir gently to make sure all the herbs are coated and remove any air bubbles. Cap the jar tightly and label it with the herb name and date.

♨️ Step 3: Slow Cook the Goodness

Fill your crock pot with water and turn it to low heat. Place your jar(s) directly into the water bath, ensuring the water level reaches about halfway up the jars. Cook the oils on low heat for 4 to 7 days, making sure to keep the water level consistent throughout the process. My secret, I cook the oils on low heat for 7 days.

💡 Pro Tip: This method allows you to infuse several different oils at once! Just be sure to label each jar so you know which herb is which.

🧼 Step 4: Strain & Store

After 4 to 7 days, remove the jars from the crock pot and allow them to cool. Once cooled, use a cheesecloth to strain the herbs from the oil. Squeeze out as much of the infused oil as possible. Then, pour your finished oil into a clean, sterilized mason jar for storage.

Store your infused oil in a cool, dark place (like your pantry) to extend its shelf life. Properly stored, your herbal oil can last up to 2 years!

💆‍♀️ How to Use Your Herbal Oil

  • Skin care: Apply directly to your skin as a natural moisturizer.

  • Salves & balms: Use as a base for making healing salves or body butters.

  • Hair treatment: Massage into your scalp or hair for added shine and moisture.

  • Aromatherapy massage: Use warm oil for a relaxing massage experience.

This hot oil infusion method unlocks the full potential of your herbs, allowing you to harness their nourishing benefits in the most potent form. So the next time you’re thinking about elevating your skincare routine or crafting a natural remedy, you’ll already have a powerful herbal oil ready to go!
