Every season has its medicine. There are the herbs every woman should keep close this summer—for cooling, calming, and restoring the body, naturally.

Summer is here! And if you're in the southern region, like I am, I'm sure you are already experiencing the burn of the season. Between the sun, sweat, busyness, and unexpected dips in energy, our bodies begin calling out for more care than we often realize. But before you reach for something synthetic and trendy on social media, I feel you should know that restoration doesn’t have to be complicated.

We serve an amazing God who created offerings to help us recover, replenish, and thrive in every season. When it comes to summer, stocking your herbal collection should be focused on restoration and less about survival.

Below I’ve listed 5 common summer issues—and the herbs every woman should have in her pantry to help her family stay balanced, replenished, and cool all season long. Whether you’re dealing with sunburned skin, midday fatigue, dehydration, or unexpected tension, these God-given remedies were made to restore.

🌞 1. Sunburn & Skin Overheating

The Concern: Too much sun can leave skin red, inflamed, and sensitive.

The Support: Calm, cool, and repair with healing, skin-loving herbs.

Herbs You Need:

  • Lavender – Cooling and anti-inflammatory. Brew the dried petals as a strong tea, cool it, and use as a facial spritz, compress, or rinse. Infuse into oil for a soothing after-sun treatment.

  • Calendula – Supports skin healing and reduces irritation. A cooled calendula tea can be applied with a cloth to sun-exposed areas for gentle relief.

  • Chamomile – Eases inflammation and tension. Use topically or sip as a tea to help the body release heat internally.

Tea Tip: Brew the herbs as a tea, then let it cool.

Use topically or sip it at room temp.

🥵 2. Heat Exhaustion & Overheating

The Concern: Long days in the heat can drain your energy, overheat your system, and fray your nerves.

The Support: Hydrating and cooling herbs help reset the body and spirit.

Herbs You Need:

  • Hibiscus – Rich in antioxidants and naturally cooling, hibiscus makes a delicious iced tea that supports circulation and hydration.

  • Lemon Balm – My all time favorite herb because it Lifts the mood and calms the nervous system. A light, refreshing herb that cools from within.

  • Peppermint – Stimulating and invigorating. Cools both the body and mind when summer fatigue sets in.

Tea Tip: Best served cold or iced.

Try my Hibiscus Mint tea for a sweet-tart and cooling summer tonic.

💧 3. Dehydration & Mineral Loss

The Concern: Sweating strips the body of vital minerals, not just water.

The Support: Replenish the body with mineral-rich and hydrating herbs.

Herbs You Need:

  • Marshmallow Root – Moistens tissues and restores internal hydration. Best made as a cold infusion to keep its soothing mucilage intact.

  • Nettle Leaf – Packed with iron, magnesium, and calcium. A deeply nourishing tonic herb to support endurance and recovery.

  • Peppermint (again lol) – Helps the body retain hydration and boosts circulation.

Tea Tip: Cold infusions are ideal.

Try steeping 1 ½ tsp of nettle and 1 ½ tsp of marshmallow overnight

in 24 oz cool or room temperature filtered water

for a mineral-rich summer drink.

⚡ 4. Muscle Cramps & Spasms

The Concern: Mineral loss, dehydration, or overexertion can lead to painful cramps.

The Support: Relax the muscles and nourish the nervous system.

Herbs You Need:

  • Cramp Bark – Soothes muscle and uterine spasms. Especially helpful for monthly cycles or tension after long summer days.

  • Oatstraw – Rebuilds strength and calms the nervous system. High in B vitamins and gentle enough for daily use.

  • Chamomile (yep, again) – Helps the body unwind and supports restful sleep when muscles are tight or aching.

Tea Tip: Sip warm in the evening

or enjoy oatstraw and chamomile cooled during the day.

Cramp bark works well in focused doses when symptoms are active.

1 to 2 tsp of Cramp Bark to 8 oz of hot water.

Steep covered 15-20 mins.

Drink 1 cup at onset of cramping. Repeat as needed.

Drink up to 3 cups daily.

❤️ 5. Blood Pressure Fluctuations (This is my struggle 😣)

The Concern: Heat can cause spikes or dips in blood pressure, especially with dehydration.

The Support: Support the heart and emotional balance with gentle, circulatory herbs.

Herbs You Need:

  • Hawthorn Leaf & Flower – Strengthens and balances the heart over time. A beautiful tea for cardiovascular support.

  • Hibiscus (again, I know) – Supports healthy blood pressure and reduces internal heat.

  • Lemon Balm (now you see why it's my favorite) – Calms the nervous system and helps regulate stress-related spikes.

Tea Tip: These herbs make a lovely heart-supportive iced tea blend.

Add cucumber slices or fresh mint for a cooling finish.

Don't forget about my Hibiscus Mint Tea (hint, hint).
